Impressa Doors Installation Guide
Step 1: Unpack & Inspect
- Remove all packaging and inspect the slab for damage, squareness, and warping.
- Confirm product details like size, color, and design are correct.
- If any issues arise, do not install. Contact your supplier.
Step 2: Examine Existing Jamb
- Ensure jamb is 3/16" wider and at least 3/8" taller than the door slab.
- Verify that the jamb and rough opening are square and plumb (maximum deviation: 1/8").
- The floor/sill must be level, and the face of the rough opening should be flat with minimal twist.
Retrofit Note: Remove the old door carefully and dispose or recycle responsibly.
Step 3: Prepare & Install the Door Slab
- The slab must be finished on all six sides after trimming, routing, and boring.
- Do not remove pre-installed hinges for finishing.
- Fit the slab into the jamb before adding hardware:
- 1/16" gap on hinge side
- 1/8" gap on strike and head jambs
- Trim a max of 1/4" per side if needed (hollow/solid core molded or flush doors only).
For better fit, bevel the latch edge using a wood plane.
Step 4: Hinge Installation
- Use 3 hinges for doors up to 84" tall, 4 for taller doors.
- Position hinges accurately:
- Top hinge: 7" from top of jamb
- Bottom hinge: 10" from bottom of slab
- Middle hinge: centered
- Chisel or route hinge recesses to match hinge thickness.
Step 5: Install Lockset & Finish
- Drill holes per lockset template (usually 2 1/8" diameter for lock, 1" for latch).
- Lock height: typically 44" from top of slab.
- Use a screwdriver for hinge screws to avoid stripping.
- For solid core or premium doors, drive a 2 ½" screw through the top two hinges into the framing for added support.
